About ASTRA

ASTRA™ (Automotive Suspended Tiedown for Recreational Accessories) is an innovative cargo restraint technology developed to improve the way equipment and gear are secured in pickup truck cargo bays.

ASTRA addresses a long-standing limitation of conventional pickup truck rail and cleat cargo management systems.

The Industry Problem

Most pickup trucks rely on sidewall-mounted rail and cleat tie-down systems positioned along the upper inner sections of the cargo bay.

While these systems are effective for securing tall items, they provide limited capability for restraining low-height cargo positioned below the rail height.

In everyday use, many commonly transported items including equipment cases, toolboxes, cargo boxes, ice coolers, travel bags, recreational gear and storage crates sit below this tie-down level and cannot be effectively secured using conventional rail and cleat systems and tie-down straps.

As a result, these items may shift or slide within the cargo bay during normal driving conditions.

Limitations of Conventional Rail & Cleat Tie-Down Systems

Movement of unsecured cargo can result in:

  • Damage to cargo and vehicle cargo bays.
  • Reduced load stability during transport.
  • Increased risk during hard braking, acceleration, cornering or sudden stops.
  • Potential safety hazards if objects become projectiles in a collision or impact event.

Despite the widespread use of rail and cleat systems, low-height cargo restraint remains an unresolved limitation in pickup truck cargo management.

The ASTRA™ Suspended Tiedown System

The ASTRA™ Suspended Tiedown System introduces a new cargo restraint approach that enables low-height cargo to be effectively secured.

The System uses a suspended tie-down configuration that applies both vertical and horizontal tension to cargo.

By suspending tie-down forces above the load, the System:

  • Contains cargo movement.
  • Stabilizes low-height loads.
  • Expands the usable cargo restraint capability of pickup truck cargo bays.

This approach allows a wider range of cargo types to be properly restrained without relying solely on conventional sidewall-mounted rail and cleat tie-down anchor points.
